60 Seconds with Ride and Reflect - New Events
We asked some of the newest arrivals to our Rotorua Bike Festival team to tell us a bit about their event and a bit about them... Joy answers Megan's questions below about Ride and Reflect, a meditative biking experience...
What is the best thing about your event?
This is an opportunity to experience the Redwood Forest in a quiet, appreciative and contemplative manner.
What sort of people do you think would most enjoy your event?
Anyone who enjoys taking time out to enjoy nature, and/or is in need of de-stressing.
What do you like most about being a part of the Rotorua Bike Festival?
The Bike Festival caters for almost everyone in both fun and physical ways. I felt there was a small gap for people who wish to experience the forest in an alternatively appreciative way.
What is unique about your event that none of the other festival events has?
This is a unique event because it is a quiet way to be in the forest, and hopefully offers an opportunity to be appreciative/contemplative. It will be guided with a short ‘grounding’/ mindful exercise in the beginning, at our meeting point at 8 Mile Gate. We will follow each other on trails, stopping for some forest related conversation at intervals, and hopefully will not be too interrupted by other riders.
Is there anything else you would like everyone to know about your event?
I am planning for this to be easy riding, primarily following grade 2 trails. I expect it will take at least one hour, possibly two.
Tell us a bit about you...
My family and I have been living near Rotorua for many years. I am currently working as a self-employed counsellor. My husband, Peter, is a log house builder. Our two younger sons Jordie and David, inspired our interest in riding about 10 years ago, and I have been riding, at my own speed, ever since. This is the first time I have run an event like this, really because I find a ride in the forest to be a great de-stressor and I love being out in nature.
Who are your event sponsors?
NZ Log Chalets and Hope Counselling are this event’s sponsors.
